By the end of Year 1, children are expected to know how to spell the following words as set out in the National Curriculum. They are called common exception words. We sometimes call them tricky words.
Please continue to learn how to spell these words, maybe take 5 per week to really focus on at home.
Selections of these common exception words, together with words taken from Y1 spelling appendix of the National Curriculum and spellings to reinforce phonic sounds learned will be sent home each week.
Spelling tests take place on Monday afternoons and new spellings for the following week will be given out at the end of each spelling session.
Please bring in your completed spelling sheets. A house-point will be given to children who we can see have practised all week.
If you want to do some extra practise then please see below for some practise sheets of common exception words split into phases.
